Information You Submit
Search Terms
A name, place, or other term entered into a search box is transmitted to the third-party search provider that operates the tool. The provider processes the query under its own privacy terms. Massachusetts Released Inmates does not store or log those search terms on systems it controls.
Messages
An email or contact message may include the sender's address, the message text, and any information the sender chooses to provide. It may be kept as long as reasonably needed to answer, maintain the exchange, prevent misuse, or meet a legal duty. Message data is not distributed outside the organization except when a service provider is needed to handle it or disclosure is legally required.
Technical Data Collected
Routine server logs and analytics systems may create technical records when a visitor opens or uses a page. Those records may include:
- Internet Protocol address
- Browser name and version
- Device type and operating system
- Pages viewed and time spent
- Referring website, when available
- Date and time stamps
Cookies
Cookies and similar browser storage can remember settings, measure visits, support advertising, and help a search or other feature operate. Browser controls can reject, limit, or remove cookies. Blocking them may change how some site functions or third-party tools work.
Reasons Data Is Used
Information is used only for site administration, requested functions, communications, measurement, security, and lawful business operations. These uses can include:
- Deliver pages and improve site performance
- Send a submitted query to the selected search partner
- Measure which statewide and county resources are used
- Answer a message and maintain site security
- Find technical errors, limit misuse, and support advertising
Privacy Beyond This Site
Links can lead to MA DOC and VINELink, Massachusetts courts, the Parole Board, Trial Court probation departments, county sheriff or police resources, federal BOP or ICE systems, and outside search services. Each destination controls its own collection, retention, cookies, security, and disclosure practices. Its privacy statement applies after a visitor follows the link.
Massachusetts public-record access is governed in part by M.G.L. c. 66, § 10 and the definition and exemptions in M.G.L. c. 4, § 7, clause 26. Those laws concern records held by public agencies. They do not make this private site the custodian of a sheriff, court, prison, parole, probation, or federal record.
Advertising and analytics providers may use cookies or their own systems to measure activity across websites and, where permitted, select advertising based on interests. Massachusetts Released Inmates does not control data collected directly by those outside providers.
Who May Receive Data
Massachusetts Released Inmates does not sell personal information submitted in a message. Limited information may be processed or disclosed to these recipients when needed for the stated purposes:
- Search partners that receive and process a submitted query
- Hosting, technical, or analytics providers that operate and measure the site
- Advertising networks that deliver or assess advertising
- Law enforcement or other government bodies acting under a valid legal order
Information may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to protect the site, enforce applicable terms, or respond to a legal claim. A third party receiving data applies its own legal duties and privacy practices.
Security Measures
Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used for information held by the site. Security is a best-effort process. No website, email exchange, transmission path, hosting service, or connected system can be guaranteed free from loss, misuse, interception, or unauthorized access. Visitors should not send information that is not needed for a site-related message.
Adults Only
The site is intended for adults. It is not directed to anyone under 18 and does not knowingly collect a minor's personal information. A parent or legal guardian who believes a minor submitted personal data may use the site contact route to request review and deletion.
Your Privacy Choices
Subject to applicable law, identity verification, and the limits of information actually held, a person may ask to exercise these privacy choices:
- Learn whether personal data is held and receive an eligible copy
- Correct personal data that is inaccurate
- Delete personal data when deletion is legally available
- Opt out of certain processing where that right applies
A request applies only to data controlled by Massachusetts Released Inmates. Questions about a MA DOC, sheriff, court, parole, probation, BOP, ICE, VINELink, search-partner, analytics, or advertising record must be directed to that record holder. Some information may be retained when law, security, dispute, or recordkeeping needs require it.
Notice Updates
This Privacy Notice may be revised as site practices, providers, or legal duties change. A new version takes effect when it is posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use after posting means the revised notice applies to later activity.
