Get in Touch

Government services are not available here. This privately operated reference site cannot confirm custody or release, free a person, post bond, retrieve an official file, change a record, or submit an agency request. Send each question to the office that created and holds the record.

Choose the Record Holder

Massachusetts has no one office that can answer every custody or release question. The correct contact depends on who held the person and which record is needed. MA DOC handles state-prison records. A sheriff or police department controls its local custody records. The Massachusetts Parole Board and Trial Court probation departments maintain different supervision files, while court clerks hold official dockets. BOP and ICE answer only for their federal systems. A release from one authority may be a transfer to another, so ask for the event type and destination when those facts matter.

  • MA DOC state-prison records: Use the Department of Correction records request page, email doc.rao@state.ma.us, call 508-422-3436, or mail the Primary Records Access Officer, Department of Correction, 50 Maple Street, Milford, MA 01757. Telephone acceptance is discretionary. MA DOC does not process county jail or house-of-correction requests.
  • County jail, house-of-correction, or police custody: Select the correct locality through the County Directory, then contact the sheriff or police records access officer identified there. Massachusetts does not have one statewide county-release records office.
  • Parole records and supervision: Contact the Massachusetts Parole Board, 12 Mercer Road, Natick, MA, at 508-650-4500 or 866-480-6272. A regional office may hold the current field-supervision information, and access limits can apply.
  • Probation information: Use MassCourts or the court clerk to identify the sentencing or supervising court, then contact that court's probation department. The Office of the Commissioner of Probation provides statewide routing at 617-727-5300. Adult probation status is generally confidential without a signed release.
  • Court dockets and dispositions: Contact the clerk of the court that issued the record. Most criminal cases available remotely require the exact docket number, and the clerk maintains the official case file.
  • MA DOC location and notifications: Use VINELink or call 866-277-7477. Live assistance is available at all times in more than 200 languages, but only MA DOC participates in the Massachusetts VINE program. It is not a county-jail release archive.
  • Federal custody: Use the BOP Inmate Locator for federal prison records, including FMC Devens. For present ICE custody, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator or call 888-351-4024, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern.

Provide personal identifiers only to the agency or service that needs them. A focused records request should name the person, approximate custody or release period, known facility, and exact existing document sought. Do not send sensitive case details to this site's contact route. A message to Massachusetts Released Inmates is not an MA DOC, sheriff, Parole Board, probation, court, BOP, or ICE records request.
